5. American Shingles
American Shingles is the importer, distributor and installer of the CertainTeed brand of asphalt roofing shingles. CertainTeed, one of the largest building materials suppliers in the US has been manufacturing asphalt shingles since 1905, with asphalt shingles covering 70-80% dwellings in the United States.
Asphalt Shingles
Asphalt shingles are a fabric reinforcement mat coated with an engineered and stabilised asphalt coating. This coating is then covered with ceramic coated mineral granules to protect the shingles from long term UV degradation and imbue the colour range available from American Shingles.
Wind resistance
The asphalt shingles also have a self sealing strip placed on the top or back face of the shingles to seal and hold down the exposed tabs providing the wind resistance warranted by CertainTeed up to 175km/h based on the product selected.
Styling options
The asphalt shingles themselves are laminated and profiled to provide a number of styles giving different dimensional characteristics from textured timber shingle aesthetics to the symmetry of slate. American shingles can be laid to a minimum roof pitch of 10o as well as vertical wall faces if required.
Asphalt shingles are an approved roof lining in Australia and listed as such in the BCA under 3.5.1 with reference to American Standard D3018-90. American Shingles offers a range of CertainTeed shingles that meet or exceed these standards for peace of mind.
